Getting around Edinburgh:

Though it’s the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is actually quite a small and self contained city, so you’ll probably be able to walk to most places if you are staying in the centre of town. If, however, the weather is not behaving itself or you are a bit out of the action then there’s a pretty good bus service available locally. Lothian Buses pretty much have the whole city covered, and plans are now underway to introduce a tram system to the city to make travel round Edinburgh even easier.

If for whatever reason you’d rather just get straight to the door of your destination you can always grab a quintessentially British black cab. The taxi network is excellent in Edinburgh and drivers are trained and generally well knowledgeable about the city, if you’re trying to hail a cab just keep your eyes peeled for the lit up sign on the roof. Tipping is of course entirely up to you, but if you’re satisfied with the service then it doesn’t hurt to leave a 10-15% tip.
