getting there edinburgh

How to get to Edinburgh:

There’s a number of ways to get to Edinburgh, it just depends where you’re coming from and what your preferences are! If you’re flying in you’ll most likely be landing at Edinburgh Airport , which is actually pretty close to town. Getting from the airport couldn’t be simpler, you can grab the Airlink 100 from the terminal into the centre of the city. It goes every 10 minutes from early morning to midnight and costs just £3 one-way and £5 for a return. If you’re a bit more on the fussy side and have that extra bit of cash then you can pick up the seven seater Edinburgh Shuttle from the terminal, which will drop you to the door of anywhere in the city centre zone. It costs £8 for one person, £15 for two, £21 for three and a further fee of £6 per person for the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh passenger.

You may well be arriving to Scotland by ferry if you are travelling from Ireland. From Belfast you can take the ferry to Troon or Stranraer in the west of Scotland. Just a bit further north is the port of Larne, which runs services to Cairnryan, again on the Scottish west coast. Each port has good public transport connections to Edinburgh. If you arrive at Troon you’re best bet is to travel by rail. A service runs into Glasgow Central, change here for the Edinburgh train into Waverley Station in the city centre. If arriving from Stranraer you can take the direct Scottish Citylink 923 bus which arrives at Edinburgh Bus Station . From Cairnryan you can pick up bus service 358 over the short distance to Stranraer and then take the 923 bus to Edinburgh as above.

Of course you may well be heading up from within Britain, and if this is the case you’re pretty much spoilt for choice… Edinburgh is a well connected by public transport so you can take the train or pick from any number of bus services.
