St. Giles Cathedral is located in the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The Cathedral is part of the Church of Scotland and is also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh.
The Cathedral has been one of Edinburgh’s religious focal points for over 900 years and today is sometimes regarded as the Presbyterianism's Mother Church. The church also contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle.
St Giles’s holds almost two hundred memorials that honor distinguished Scots and Scottish soldiers. Most of the memorials date from the 19th century and early 20th century.
It also has a notable collection of stained glass windows of both traditional and contemporary styles, which date from the 1870s onwards.
The Cathedral is a short walk from Waverley railway station and bus numbers 35, 23, 27, 28, 41 and 42 all pass close by.
