Camera Obscura can be found in the Outlook Tower at the top of the Royal Mile. It was built in 1850 by the optician Maria Theresa Short and was originally known as Short’s Observatory.
The ticket counter and gift shop are located at the entrance to the tower. You must be willing to climb the six flights of stairs to get to the Camera Obscura as there is no lift! It is definitely worth it though as at the top of the tower is an observation deck with free telescopes.
You will have an allocated time to visit the Camera Obscura and the guide will give you approx. a 15 minute demonstration.
Alongside the tower is the World of Illusion, which has a Magic Gallery, where you can catch your shadow, shake hands with your ghost and see other amazing optical illusions. A very enjoyable trip that all the family will love!
